Oil Cleansing Method

Hey y’all! Today I’m doing a post on my skin care regime. Instead of cleaning my face with a bunch of products, I try to keep it more natural using the oil cleansing method. The OCM is a way to remove any dirt or makeup using two oils, one astringent and one moisturizing. So instead of having a makeup remover, face wash, and moisturizer you only use two oils.

I have combination skin, which fluctuates with the weather, so I use castor oil as my astringent oil and sweet almond oil as my moisturizing oil. Other astringent oils you can use include hazelnut, grape seed, and sunflower oil and other moisturizing oils include avocado or olive oil. You can use whatever oil you want, the key is to make sure one is astringent which will get makeup and dirt out of your skin and that the other one is moisturizing to combat the dryness it would cause if you only used the astringent oil.

To clean my face I wash my hands, and then pour (about the size of a nickel for each) both oils in my hand and mix them together. I then put the oil over my entire face and bring it down on my neck a little and just rub my face in circles, just as you would normally do when washing your face with any other face wash. After you’ve done that for a minute, take a wet wash clothe (hot water, not cold is key) and remove the oil from my face. This part takes a little bit longer, up to 5 minutes if I’m wearing a full face of makeup, but it gets all the oil and makeup off your face.

And that is literally all you do! If my skin is really dry, then I will put on another moisturizer in addition to combat those dry flakey areas but I don’t wash my face again or use any thing else! I love this method because its very inexpensive and all natural. I’ve been doing this for over three months and have used less than 1/4 of both bottles I have, compared to when I washed my face with soap and would have to restock every other month. Also, my skin is sensitive so I always react to cheap foaming agents (which I’m allergic too) and get little bumps all over my skin, and with the OCM I don’t!

Have you tried the OCM? How do you wash your skin? Let me know in the comments!

Until next time, Mags

  1. Wow! Never knew how much work goes into skin care! Your skin must be so smooth! Maybe I should get into this any recommendations on what guys should do? Love the new blog theme btw.

    • You should totally try it out! If you do, make sure to let your skin “adapt” before you judge the results. The first week I did this my skin was super dry and flaky, but after that it’s gotten better!
